We always have trouble going out to celebrate....people glare at us from other tables as if to say "Assholes". And I understand. Really. I stayed home from work on our first anniversary, THE September 11, and just watched in horror, over and over again, the footage and commentary. I wondered about the friends I had in NYC, hoping they were okay. It was truly surreal, and I suppose, somewhat akin to what people felt when hearing about and seeing the pix of Pearl Harbor. Of course, back then they didnt have the media playing endless loops of planes crashing into buildings and people jumping from the 100th floor.
I believe that The Onion said it best...in a way no one else could because frankly, there is only so much one can feel before going numb. Their headline read: "HOLY FUCKING SHIT".
I don't know if the Onion still has that issue archived online, but it's worth searching for.
