I'm grumpy, moody and cranky, why don't I do tech help?
Because for some odd freaking reason, when i'm trying to help people learn how to do something on a computer at work, I put forth a bit of effort to actually HELP people. And I've known tech help people who really do want to help.
However, there is such a large segment of those folks who answer the phone and whine and bitch and moan, like hell, i cannot BELIEVE the phone rang, wtf?!?!? just because it says 'help desk' i never thought anyone would actually have a problem or question more than, the printer doesn't work because i don't have any drivers installed. Well hello, as someone who was a techie for 4 years and still gets a kick out of technology and working with it, i think i can figure most of that crap out and my main problems come when sys admins won't give me access. Then i am forced to call. At which point, it'd be damned nice if someone would just help solve the problem instead of saying things like, 'oh, that's bad' or 'well, we'll have to do something horribly complicated because we've never dealt w/ that before,' just hoping i'll say forget it and they can get back to whining about people who don't like star trek. you'd think something out of the ordinary would provide something of interest or amusement, but no.
and, just for the record, macs and pcs are NOT that different and if you can work on one (save those who fear computers and you just stay w/ whatever freaks you out less), you can work on the other and honestly, figuring out how they work isn't that difficult either so if the tech help people are soooo high and mighty and know evrything, why is there so few of them who can figure out a mac?
And it's not even a monday.

We have the BEST computer people here at work. All 3 of them should be sainted....really. I've never run across the likes of them in the work world before, and I doubt I ever will again.

That is awesome. My other job had fabulous computer people too! They were great and would actually explain things to you if you didn't totally understand and would geek out in such a good way. And, they always had candy and would share.
Damn, i miss that crew.

Shame on you, em! Floyd never thought you would be an Anti-Trekite. Go sit in the corner and think about what you have done.

oh, and then they say something like, "your motherboard and all of the contects on the rueter-gage-typelist-plastic-chip has spontaneously combusted. i hope you backed everything up. we will send someone out" what? what happened to my computer? i don't get it. freaking just tell me "you're fuct" and i'll get it.
then nobody comes and i wait and i wait and i wait because i am scared to touch anything because i might become infected by some virus and since 99% of my job involves computer interaction, i just sit and stare at the wall for 2 days straight until some tech person shows up and fiddles with the insides for two seconds and then everything is ok.
boy, jege, you touched a nerve on that one. i think today i will use my time crank calling the help desk.

my favorite is when they issue you a 'ticket number.' Then, weeks later, you write back and get an auto-reply thanking you for your interest. why can't they just respond and help. Stop obsessively tracking my e-mails and just stop over and help out a bit.
And the really annoying thing is that you totally could fix your computer if they gave you access! they just won't and then they get mad at you like it's your fault.
Sorry, Floyd. I love Star Wars and used to watch Dr. Who if it makes you feel any better. Well...and okay, the really old Star Trek episodes are good for their camp value, but beyond that, can't get into it.
secret word: mapao...makes me want ma po tofu! nummers!
